Orioles 5, Tigers 3

We saw a pretty good display of pitching from Jeremy Guthrie today as he gave the O’s 7 solid innings in route to their 56th win of the season. Guthrie has been pitching very well in general this year, especially these last few months.

He was getting a lot of speed on his fastball tonight (max around 94 MPH) and he was really pounding the outside parts of the strike zone to get outs. He definitely got lucky with a few pitches, though.  Finished today with 7 IP, 5 H, 4 K’s and 1 BB. Not bad at all.

Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer was also pitching very well…..until he got to the 6th inning where the O’s put 4 runs on him.  Two of which were driven in by a Cesar Izturis triple…which I honestly didn’t see coming at all.

A road bump did occur when Matt Albers took the mound and allowed 3 runs to come in. It’s too bad that had to happen because his last few appearances went pretty well. Thankfully, the O’s were able to get some insurance by adding on a run in the 9th inning. There was a little help from Tigers RF Ryan Raburn after he misplayed a Matt Wieters fly ball that ended up being a double. Koji Uehara came on to earn the save.

All in all, a solid game from the O’s despite Albers struggles. They definitely had a few bounces go there way but you have to take wins as they come with how bad of a season it’s been for them.
