Who deserves the NL Cy Young?

Most of the Cy Young focus is on the AL with the racing coming down to Felix Hernandez, CC Sabathia and Francisco Liriano but I believe that Felix deserves the award hands down, so let’s focus on the NL, which I haven’t given much attention to. It’s clear that Tim Lincecum isn’t going to win it a 3rd year in a row since he’s going through a rough year for his standards. Meaning he’s still pitching really well but he’s not Mr. FIP under 3.00 anymore. When it comes to determining who wins the Cy Young, I look at the pitcher whose been dominant the whole year. The one you know that you are going to struggle against if you’re an opposing hitter. There’s 4 pitchers in the NL who have been that this year, in my opinion;

Josh Johnson

2.43 FIP, 3.88 K/BB, 1.11 WHIP, BABIP .308, 6.2 WAR

He’s been dominant when he’s on the mound and he’s definitely earning that huge contract the Marlins gave him. One thing that might set him back is that he’s pitched the least amount of innings out of the Cy Young contenders. Still, you have to give him a lot of credit for the year he’s put together. He’s been getting better with each year in the majors.

Adam Wainwright

2.92 FIP, 3.43 K/BB, 1.03 WHIP, .273 BABIP, 5.4 WAR

Wainwright is a pitcher that’s always been good at getting people out not matter how. He pitches to contact a lot and gets quick outs that way, and he’s arguably the best in the game at doing that.

Ubaldo Jimenez

3.02 FIP, 2.34 K/BB, 1.15 WHIP, .274 BABIP, 5.8 WAR

Not the dominant pitcher he was in May but he’s still having a great year and I think he’ll have some consideration. His fastball is one of the best in the game right now.

Roy Halladay

2.44 FIP, 7.88 K/BB, 1.05 WHIP, .300 BABIP, 6.2 WAR

Ridiculous K/BB rate, more IP than any other pitcher, only 1 walk per 9 innings and a perfect game to go along with it. Yeah, I think Halladay has to be the front-runner for the Cy Young right now. It should come down to him and Wainwright seeing how they’re the best at getting guys out on a consistent basis.
