Thoughts on last night’s games

Lightning 4, Islanders 2

I really feel bad for Dwayne Roloson right now. He’s always standing on his head every game but the Isles have lost their last 12 now. When Mark Eaton, James Wisniewski, Radek Martinek and Mike Mottau are your top 4 defensemen, then your goalie is going to have to see a lot of pucks. Poor Isles….and they thought Scott Gordon was the problem.

Bruins 3, Rangers 2

How well Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan and Artem Anisimov work together is ridiculous. I don’t think either three have that high of a ceiling but they are going to be a ridiculously solid line by the end of the season. Also, I want to know why it took so long for the Rangers to give Derek Stepan better linemates. Dailyfaceoff said that he was with Boogaard and Avery to start the game but he set up Gaborik’s goal and did a nice job at it too.

Penguins 3, Canucks 1

I love how two of the Pens goals came on failed powerplay attempts by Vancouver. Defense on that Asham goal was hilarious too. Also, how hard is it to say Kevin Bieksa’s name? I heard Errey call him “Bieska” about five times on the highlight package.

Capitals 4, Sabres 2

Johansson did a nice job of winning faceoffs but it didn’t look like him being on the first line had that much impact. Conversely, Backstrom on the second line had a huge effect. The line of Bradley, Steckel and Chimera looked awesome too. Two goals from them as a result of great forechecking. Caps need to stop giving up goals in bunches though. It’s happened numerous times. At least Neuvirth shut the door for the third period.

Hurricanes 7, Senators 1

Would have been nice to see the Sens get a victory with how much Richardson’s been through. The Canes are a team that’s been so unpredictable this season. Either they score 7 goals or give up 7.

Panthers 2, Thrashers 1

Not a lot to say here other than it looked like David Booth hurt his knee blocking a shot in the last minute. Poor guy.

Red Wings 7, Blues 3

Halak’s own goal was hilarious. I figured the Blues would stumble at some point but it’s looking more like a free-fall now. That’s expected with injuries to Oshie and Pietrangelo. That and Halak hasn’t been so lucky this week. They aren’t being talked about a lot but the Wings are 12-3-1 and are leading the West in points right now.

Wild 2, Ducks 1

Oh look, Havlat scored. Aside from that it looks like a usual Wild game with Niklas Backstrom winning the game for them again. And Antti Miettnen helped a little too.

Avalanche 5, Sharks 4

Kevin Porter’s game winner was awesome. I didn’t know who Mike Moore or Kyle Shattenkirk were but they scored their first goals in this game.

Coyotes 3, Flames 1

Flames have looked like the worst team in the West he few games I’ve watched them.

Blackhawks 5, Oilers 0

Then there’s the Oilers….A natural hatty for Jonathan Toews.

Blue Jackets 5, Kings 3

Jackets are sitting at 10-6-0 right now and they just beat arguably the best team in the conference. Can they keep it up? We’ll see, the defense is still looking shaky and I don’t think Mason’s proved he can a solid full season after his rookie year. Thankfully, Garon’s been good in back-up duty.
