Caps-Stars post-game thoughts

I’ll just give you the short version since I have other stuff to do and I’m sure there’s other recaps out there than can give you a more detailed summary of tonight’s loss.

Basically, tonight’s game consisted of some great goaltending, a lot of penalties and bad ice. The Caps couldn’t solve Andrew Raycroft, took a lot of penalties, some of which I didn’t agree with and the ice at the American Airlines Center was atrocious. Lots of players falling down, bouncing pucks, awful passes and fanned shots. Both teams were cost numerous scoring chances because of how much the puck was bouncing.

The Caps seemed to have the tying goal in the last 10 seconds but it was disallowed due to goaltender interference. The call was very questionable and I’ll leave it at that for now. Also, remember how I said Ovechkin would score tonight? Yeah, that didn’t happen but Mike Knuble had a nice goal on a one-timer. At least that’s something!

Three Stars:

1. Andrew Raycroft

2. Mike Ribeiro

3. Mike Knuble

So, the Caps fought hard tonight but couldn’t get the job done late and that happens sometimes. Washington is usually good at rallying in games like this but you can’t win them all. We’ll get ready to face the Thrashers on Saturday back at Verizon Center where the ice is also bad but not this bad. Hopefully, haha.

Around The NHL

Logan Couture’s return to Ottawa was somewhat more eventful than Dany Heatley’s tonight as he had two beautiful goals. Heatley had two assists and received a lot of jeering every time he touched the puck.

Sidney Crosby recorded another hat trick.

The Oilers have won three in a row with three different goaltenders.

The Leafs and Devils got destroyed and might have a new coach by the end of the week.

The Lightning’s goaltenders could be the downfall of that team if Dan Ellis doesn’t start to pick it up.
